Professional Teeth Cleanings
Combining precise periodontal screenings with advanced laser and warm-water AIRFLOW® technologies, our professional cleanings blast away the hardened, disease-causing tartar that home brushing simply can’t touch, thus protecting both your vibrant smile and your whole-body health.
Why professional teeth cleanings matter
Even with excellent brushing, flossing, water flossers, and home care, there is something that cannot be fully removed at home: hardened bacterial deposits (tartar or calculus). Over time, soft plaque hardens into mineralized deposits that attach firmly to teeth. Once deposits become hard, toothbrushes, floss, rinses, and over-the-counter products cannot remove them. Professional instruments are required. Everyone develops some level of buildup over time. Some people naturally accumulate deposits faster than others, but even patients with excellent oral hygiene benefit from professional maintenance.
Your saliva helps naturally wash, buffer, and protect your teeth by helping remineralize enamel and reduce acid. However, despite the body’s natural defenses, hard deposits inevitably develop. This is why regular visits with your hygienist and dentist are essential for maintaining healthy gums and preventing future disease.
Teeth cleanings are about more than cleaning teeth
At Forever Smiles, every preventive cleaning appointment includes evaluating the health of your gums. Why? Because gum disease often develops silently. Many patients are unaware they have early gum disease until significant damage has already occurred.
Periodontal screening and pocket measurements
One of the most important parts of a preventive cleaning is periodontal charting. This involves measuring the small space between your teeth and gums, called a periodontal pocket. Healthy gums generally have pocket depths of 1–3 millimeters. Healthy gums should also not bleed when evaluated. If pocket depths become deeper than normal or bleeding is present, it may indicate inflammation or periodontal disease. Warning signs include bleeding gums, pocket depths greater than 3 mm, swollen or inflamed gums, bacterial buildup beneath the gumline, and bone loss around teeth. At Forever Smiles, we believe bleeding gums are not normal. And inflammation is an early warning sign. Catching gum disease early allows for more conservative, successful treatment.
Gum disease and whole-body health
Gum disease is not just a dental problem. Research continues to show links between periodontal disease and overall health conditions, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes complications, chronic inflammation, pregnancy complications, and increased systemic inflammatory burden. Protecting your gums is part of protecting your overall health.
Advanced cleaning technology at Forever Smiles
We invest in advanced technology and training to provide a higher level of preventive care. Our hygienists use precise hand-scaling instruments to carefully remove hardened buildup from teeth and below the gumline. These specialized instruments allow detailed cleaning and precise removal of deposits.
We also use advanced ultrasonic and piezoelectric technology to efficiently remove hardened deposits and bacterial buildup. These technologies use gentle vibration and water irrigation to disrupt bacteria and clean areas that are difficult to access with traditional methods alone. One of the advanced technologies we offer is HuFriedyEMS AIRFLOW® polishing, something not commonly found in many dental practices. AIRFLOW technology uses fine powder, warm water, and airflow to gently remove biofilm, stain, and bacterial buildup from teeth and even below the gumline.
For patients who prefer it, we also offer traditional pumice polishing. While considered a more traditional approach, some patients simply enjoy the familiar feel and polishing experience. At Forever Smiles, we customize your care to your preferences and needs. Our hygienists also use diode laser bacterial reduction therapy to help reduce harmful bacteria around the gums and teeth.
Benefits of laser bacterial reduction
Reduce bacterial load, support healthier gums, improve periodontal maintenance, and enhance preventive care. Investment in dental laser technology represents a significant commitment to advanced patient care and prevention.
How often should you get your teeth cleaned?
The ideal cleaning schedule depends on your personal risk factors. For many patients, professional cleanings every 6 months are ideal for maintaining healthy gums and teeth. However, some patients benefit from more frequent visits. If you have gum disease, bleeding gums, heavy buildup tendencies, increased cavity risk, or medical conditions affecting oral health, we may recommend a 3–4 month periodontal maintenance schedule to prevent disease progression and maintain healthier gums. At Forever Smiles, your recall schedule is based on your risk level and not a one-size-fits-all approach. Prevention First. Always.
A proactive approach to oral health.
We believe healthy gums should not be ignored until disease becomes severe. We believe in finding inflammation early, cleaning thoroughly, reducing harmful bacteria, and helping patients preserve healthy teeth for life. Because healthy teeth start with healthy gums. And professional dental cleanings are one of the most powerful tools for keeping your smile strong, healthy, and beautiful for years to come.
