Understanding Dental Implants
With thoughtful planning, proper implant positioning, and artistic smile design, dental implants can look remarkably natural. Are you ready for yours?
The crown (the part you see above the gums)
Instead of a natural root, a dental implant is a small titanium post placed into the jawbone. Over time, the bone naturally bonds to the implant surface in a process called osseointegration, creating a strong and stable foundation for replacement teeth. Unlike natural teeth, implants do not have a periodontal ligament or nerve supply but they can still feel incredibly stable, comfortable, and natural to most patients.

What are dental implants made of?
Most dental implants are made from medical-grade titanium, an extremely strong and biocompatible material that has been used safely for decades. At Forever Smiles, we primarily use high-quality implant systems designed to encourage strong healing and long-term stability.
When is a dental implant used?
Dental implants can replace:a single missing tooth, multiple missing teeth, bridges, loose or uncomfortable dentures, or full arches of teeth. In some cases, implants can even be placed the same day a tooth is removed.
Why proper planning matters
Successful dental implants require more than simply placing metal into bone. Long-term success depends on:healthy surrounding bone, roper tissue thickness, precise implant positioning, careful cosmetic planning, and bite and chewing forces. When implants are not placed in the ideal position (or when there is not enough healthy supporting bone) the long-term appearance and stability can suffer. That is why careful planning and experience matter. At Forever Smiles, we use 3D imaging, digital planning, and advanced surgical technology to place implants as precisely as possible and create beautiful, long-lasting results.
What happens after an implant is placed?
Once the implant is placed, healing begins. Over the next 2–3 months, the bone naturally bonds with the implant to create a strong foundation. During healing, a temporary tooth or healing component may be used to help shape the gums for an ideal final result. Once healing is complete, the final restoration is attached.
This may be: a single custom crown, a bridge, a snap-in denture, or fixed implant-supported teeth. The final result can be incredibly lifelike, comfortable, and natural-looking.
Can dental implants look natural?
Absolutely. Achieving beautiful implant aesthetics is both a science and an art. Bone shape, gum tissue, smile design, tooth position, and facial harmony all play an important role. At Forever Smiles, we carefully plan every step of the process to create implant restorations that are designed to be beautiful, functional, and long-lasting.
