How Does Fluoride Work?
Fluoride acts like a shield applied directly to the outside of your teeth.
When it sits on your enamel, it locks right into the mineral surface, turning the outer layer into a much tougher shell called fluorapatite.
And that upgrade makes your teeth far more resistant to the harsh acid produced by mouth bacteria.
Standard enamel starts breaking down the second your mouth’s acid levels hit a pH of 5.5.
But once fluoride fuses into that outer layer, that danger threshold drops all the way down to 4.5.
