Root Canal Treatment
Saving an Infected Tooth with Advanced, Comfortable Care
A root canal treatment becomes necessary when decay, injury, or a crack lets bacteria enter the inner pulp chamber of a tooth. This pulp houses the tooth’s nerves and blood vessels. And once bacteria invade this space, the infection can spread down through the root canal system. It eventually exits the tip of the root, damaging the surrounding jawbone.
Root canal therapy allows us to eliminate the infection entirely. We clean and seal the interior space, which saves your natural tooth.
When Is a Root Canal Needed?
A root canal might be necessary if your tooth shows specific warning signs:
- Deep decay reaching the inner nerve
- Constant sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures
- Sharp pain when biting down
- Swelling or a visible abscess on the gums
- A large old filling with new decay underneath
- A visible fracture line extending into the pulp
- Physical trauma that damaged the internal nerve
Early inflammation of the pulp can sometimes be reversed with a simple filling. Dentists call this reversible pulpitis. But when the inflammation grows too severe, the pulp tissue loses its ability to heal naturally. This condition is irreversible pulpitis, and a root canal is required to fix it.
A Comfortable, Pain-Free Process
A root canal can also rescue a tooth with a crack reaching into the pulp. Fractures often occur from physical trauma, heavy grinding, or very large fillings.
If we spot the fracture early, performing a root canal and placing a crown can save the tooth. But if the crack travels too far down into the root, saving the tooth may prove impossible. Unfortunately, determining the true depth of a crack isn’t always possible until treatment starts or symptoms persist.
At Forever Smiles, we evaluate every tooth carefully. We only recommend treatment when we see a strong chance of long-term success.
Our Commitment if a Tooth Cannot Be Saved
Root canal therapy boasts high success rates, but rare cases arise where a tooth cannot be saved. Deep hidden cracks or stubborn infections can occasionally prevent complete healing.
When you trust our advice and move forward with treatment, Dr. Knorr believes our office should share that responsibility. If a treated tooth fails and requires extraction, Forever Smiles will credit your root canal payment toward a replacement dental implant. In many situations, we credit the crown cost as well.
This commitment reflects our core values. And if you trust us with your dental care, we stand firmly behind our work.
Preserve Your Natural Tooth Whenever Possible
Prevention is always the best approach to oral health. But when an infection takes hold, a root canal provides a safe path to avoid tooth removal.
Through modern technology, careful diagnostic care, and laser-enhanced cleaning, Forever Smiles delivers root canal treatment focused on your comfort and long-term health.
